The castle of Tepelena is an amazing monument with an incredible value. This castle used to have inside elements of an aristocrat life that was lived from Ali Pashe Tepelena and his family, and this is shown through the solid structure and the perfect organization of this castle. The castle of Tepelena, during the Middle Age, was highly recognized for its strategic position, thus controlling all the roads from Gjirokastra to Drinos Laguna, and from Permet to Vjosa Laguna. The earliest traces belong to the period before the Ottoman invasion and show a highly fortified system. The second period that the castle was built is related with the building of the small rectangular castle fortified with two circular towers on its western side. Two building techniques are clearly seen in the surrounding wall: Klausonazh technique that is used mainly for the lower part of the northern wall and the rest is built with stones and lime mortar.
